In the dark of night as is the underbelly of New Zealand those impoverished with poor wages, poverty, children going hungry, job losses in a country rich with vegetation, fresh air, water the attitude is to blame the victim not the system.
What is the system? Financial Institutions, banks, governments, the rape of the financial wealth of a country by mismanagement of financial portfolios, fraud, corruption.
Members of Parliament with excessive disposable expenditure, to pay for their rents, power and other private utilities not enough is done. The cry of ‘it is within the rules’ ( their self approved rules) well change the rules. It can be done overnight.
Constraint on spending a more rigorous explanation for a paid flight for example would bring about wiser choices of which event to fly to and does it really benefit the country. Or pay for it themselves out of their earnings.
Most New Zealanders accept that the MP has a reasonable salary, however when $45.000 is spent on non essential airfares by an MP and deny the right of a disable child the right for schooling assisted by a support teacher/care person, or because of loss of employment place people in a 26 plus week stand down without income to the point hard honest working people are facing losing their home.
Deny people education, up skilling watch poverty gnaw at families and hungry children, the wailing MP’s cry as they wring their hands saying to the public “they deserve my perks, my rent is paid, my power bill is paid, airfares and even food and my whole living plus a salary “
Few of us would want MP’s badly paid, but most of us want a review of the Welfare system and MP’s entitlements, the latter may work hard but so does the rest of the country for example the cleaner of the toilets in Parliament buildings.
Overall a balance would bring about the innovative, creative passionate person to become an MP and fight for the country for the betterment of all New Zealanders’.
No use saying to New Zealanders’ to bake a cake, watch household spending, when we do not have the flour and the collapsed financial companies raped the household money.

Former politicians instituted systems that saw many lose fringe benefits after working 40 years or more for State enterprises that were sold for a pittance.
One of the knighted architects in NZ defended the massive perks for politicians like himself. He defended these by publicly saying he had worked for them and it was part of his entitlement. What of those who lost theirs under his very leadership. Many of these retired people had often worked far longer than this ex minister.
Many politicians are arch hypocrites and your correspondent exposes that very well.
